Building confident guitarists through structured learning and personalized instruction since 2015
Essentialanswers began in 2015 when three professional musicians in London noticed a gap in accessible, quality instruction for beginners. What started as weekend sessions in a small studio has grown into a comprehensive learning centre serving over 300 students annually.
We focus exclusively on beginners because we believe the first six months determine whether someone continues playing or gives up. Our approach combines traditional technique with modern teaching methods, making sure each student builds proper habits from day one.
The name "Essentialanswers" reflects our teaching philosophy. Students come with questions: How do I hold the instrument? Why won't this chord sound clean? What should I practice? We provide clear, practical answers without unnecessary complexity. Our curriculum addresses the 47 most common challenges beginners face, drawn from analysis of 8 years of student feedback.
We make learning accessible for adults and teenagers who believe they're "too old" or "not musical enough." Every instructor holds Grade 8 certification and completes ongoing training in adult learning principles. Classes are capped at 6 students to ensure individual attention.
We measure success by how many students still play after 12 months, not by how quickly we move through material.
By 2026, we aim to expand our evening and weekend availability to accommodate working professionals across Greater London. We're developing an online resource library with 150+ practice videos, allowing students to review techniques between sessions.
Students advance when ready, not according to arbitrary timelines. We'd rather someone nail the basics than rush into complicated material.
We tell students what needs improvement and why. Constructive criticism, delivered respectfully, builds faster progress than constant praise.
Theory matters, but students learn songs they actually want to play. We balance technical exercises with enjoyable material from week one.
Flexible scheduling includes weekday evenings and Saturday mornings. Instruments are available for in-studio practice at no additional charge.
All instructors have performed professionally and hold recognized teaching qualifications. The team includes specialists in classical, folk, rock, and jazz styles. This diversity means we can match students with instructors whose background aligns with their musical interests.
Real progress from people who started with zero experience. Each student followed a structured learning path tailored to their schedule and musical preferences.
Sarah from Manchester had never touched a guitar before. After 12 lessons focused on basic chord shapes and strumming patterns, she performed her first complete song. The curriculum included proper hand positioning, rhythm exercises, and gradual progression through G, C, D, and Em chords.
James wanted to play rock music but had no prior experience. This 8-week programme covered power chords, palm muting, and basic lead techniques. He learned to play three complete rock songs and understands amplifier settings. The training included pick technique development and timing with a metronome.
Emma from Bristol learned fingerstyle technique from scratch over 10 weeks. The course started with thumb independence exercises and progressed to Travis picking patterns. She now plays instrumental arrangements with alternating bass and melody lines, demonstrating control over individual fingers and clean note separation.
Michael struggled with switching between chords. A targeted 6-week programme focused on muscle memory development and transition exercises. He practiced specific chord pairs daily, gradually increasing tempo. Now he changes smoothly between 8 different chord shapes without looking at his fretting hand.
David from Leeds wanted to play blues but had zero experience. This 12-week course introduced the pentatonic scale, 12-bar blues structure, and basic bending technique. He learned three blues progressions and can improvise simple solos. The training emphasized listening skills and rhythmic feel alongside technical development.
Lisa had basic chord knowledge but struggled with rhythm. An 8-week programme focused on strumming patterns, dynamics, and timing. She learned to play 6 different rhythm patterns and apply them to various songs. The course included metronome work and recording sessions to track improvement in timing accuracy.
We offer structured learning designed for complete beginners, combining practical skills with music theory in a supportive environment.
Our courses start with basic chord shapes and strumming patterns, progressing through scales and fingerpicking techniques. Each lesson builds on previous knowledge, with 12 structured modules covering fundamental skills needed for acoustic and electric guitar playing.
Sessions are available Monday through Saturday, with morning, afternoon, and evening slots. Students can book weekly lessons or intensive weekend workshops. Rescheduling is possible with 24-hour notice, accommodating work and family commitments across London.
Students learn to play recognizable songs from the first month. The repertoire includes folk, rock, and pop pieces selected to match current skill levels. This method keeps motivation high while developing rhythm, timing, and chord transition abilities through familiar melodies.
All students receive printed chord charts, tablature guides, and practice exercises. Digital resources include video demonstrations and backing tracks for home practice. Materials cover standard notation basics, helping students understand written music alongside tablature reading.
Group sessions with 3-5 students create a collaborative learning atmosphere. Participants benefit from observing others, sharing challenges, and playing together. This format suits those who enjoy social learning while keeping costs lower than individual tuition.
Regular assessments every 8 weeks measure advancement through the curriculum. Students receive written feedback on technique, rhythm accuracy, and music reading skills. This systematic approach identifies areas needing attention and celebrates milestones achieved during the learning journey.
We've been helping aspiring guitarists in London and across the UK develop their skills since 2019. Our structured approach and dedicated instructors have guided hundreds of students from their first chord to confident playing.
